Eyeshadow Look

  Yesterday I was going to the new Target in our area, (right next to Kohl's, I may never leave!) and wanted a makeup look that was natural but still pretty.  I came up with this grouping.  The Rosy Tan is a polychromatic eyeshadow that is shimmery and wears so pretty on the lid.  The Cedar eyeshadow is matte and is the perfect shade for a crease color.  The Truffle is a darker matte shadow that is great for that outer corner, and I used a Smokey brush for the perfect placement.  To take this look to the next level, I would add in a silver highlight to the brow bone and inner tearduct, and add in more of the Truffle eyeshadow to the outer corner and lower lashline to smoke it up a bit.

  The 3 eyeshadow palette is something new I will be carrying on top of the Face, Cheek, and Eye palette that I already carry.  It is perfect for creating easy day time looks and using the darker shadow to transition to a night time look.

Fashion Week Fall 2012 Look

  This makeup look that I fell in love with is from designer Jason Wu from the Fashion Week Fall 2012 runway.  The model looks more blue than mine did but that would be easy to add in to the corner.  It reminds me of the colors of peacock...emerald green and teal blue.

To watch the video for this look please visit my YouTube Channel .
I had to cut the video to get it from 30 minutes to 15 minutes time that YouTube allows.
A full list of the products used are at the bottom.

Ask Kim {Summer & Fall Makeup}

Ask Kim:  Do I need to change my makeup from Summer to Fall?

I was recently asked by a client if the plums and berry makeup that she is currently wearing is still appropriate for the Fall.  I think these colors are great for all seasons and flattering for many skintones.  Generally makeup for Summer is bronzed, glowing skin and Fall is darker colors, and more defined makeup. For instance this Fall the eyes are defined with deeply pigmented eyeshadows and black eyeliner, or keep the eyes light and pair with lined, wine stained lips.

My advice would be to keep the plums and berries through out the year but for Fall maybe try more of a smokey eye using the darkest shades or deepen the berry lip and keep the eyes neutral.  See below the difference from a Summer look to this year's Fall looks.

Smokey Eye {Pinterest Re-Create}

I pinned this picture from Pinterest and was inspired to recreate
 a similar look using my Naked Palette.
I have yet to do a look with the blue eyeshadow in that palette,
called Gunmetal.  Her eyeshadow color is a little more vibrant than mine but I loved the application of hers.

Of course when I decided to do this it was late
and I have horrible lighting.
But this look was fun to do because I don't usually go for such a
bold color.  It looked a lot darker and bluer in person.

 In different lighting....need to get some kind of studio lighting.
In the Naked palette I used 3 colors,
Virgin (hightlight), Buck (contour), and Gunmetal (contour & outer "V").

 I applied my makeup as usual, only adding in some contouring under the cheekbone and lining the inner rim of my eye.  This was what my vanity looked like mid-application.

{you can see the Gunmetal eyeshadow in the palette on the far right}

I posted all of these pictures and realized that I did not put on mascara.  What?!!  How did I forget that?
So here is two taken last minute with mascara, I didn't go crazy because all I can think about is what a pain this is going to be to take off!!

 Well that was fun, time to go scrub my face!!

Makeup Randomness

  I realized the other day that even though I have been slathering on the SPF 30, I had gotten tan enough to change my foundation color.  I wanted to find the correct undertones for my skin tone and demonstrate that I put 5 swatches of my matte, oil-free foundation on the underside of my arm.

  There is a reason that most women find that finding a foundation color is harder than it looks.  That is because all of these foundation colors are in the warm tones but they are completely different.   The very first foundation color is barely visible on my skin, that is my "winter" color, called Linen.  But they rest of me is a lot darker than this area, so I wanted to go up one shade.  My sister is the 3rd shade, and my mom is the 5th shade.  In order to not have the dreaded foundation line I tested them all on my face and picked the 2nd and 3rd to try on.

 These pictures are a lot closer than I would like but you can see how great this foundation covers.  I have a lot of discoloration on my face and it literally disappears from the cheekbone down when I applied the foundation.  I also applied the foundation on my jawline down to see how it blended into my neck area.

This is the 3rd foundation color (Vanilla Cream), the one my sister and my sister-in-law both wear.  The color was way more visible compared to the 2nd (Tender Beige).  Since this is not the look that I am going for, I chose Tender Beige.  If I feel like my face is looking too light, I just add bronzer and if I continue to darken through out the summer, I can add in a cooler tone to add in a tan color.
